I recently got a used 5 gallon tank. i rinsed and scrubbed it very well and I did not use the gravel or filter media. I tore down my 3 gallon and set up the 5 gal. with the water and filter etc. i do not have a problem with any of my other tanks. only this one. It grows rapidly- it is long green hair-like algae. It looks AWFUL!!! It got so bad that i tore it down and put the fish in my other tank. i rinsed it well, and set it up again- this time with 1 male betta. Same problem. i Continue to scrub it but this does not help at all. Does anyone else have the same problem? i do regular weekly water changes and i am having a lot of problems with it. WHAT CAN I DO??? HELP!!!!!

I found that with my 5 gallon I had to do water changes twice a week. The gunk just builds up to fast in a little tank, even with only a betta in it, which is what I had in my 5.

Is there something you are putting back in the tank that is re"infecting" it? Is it near a window?

Did you clean with a weak solution of bleach and super rinse?

It is not by a window. I have not put anything in the tank that would start it up again. I used only new gravel, new filter media, and new plants. I did not use any old water, and I was reccomended not to use any bleach at all. the olny thing that was in the other tank was the filter, and the heater. EVERYTHING was rinsed and scrubbed with hot and then cold water. In the old 3 gallon, I never had this problem. I hardly have any algae in my other ones.

Any tips?
