Schistura finis Profile**x

Post by Martin Thoene » Wed Oct 18, 2006 11:44 am

*work in progress*

Scientific name: Schistura finis (Kottelat, 2000)

Common name: None.

Synonyms: None.

Distribution: Nam Kan, border between Laos and Vietnam

Sexual Dimorphism: Unknown.

Maximum size: 3.5 inches (9cm)

Similar to: Many other Schistura Species.

Care: As with other species of Schistura, this is a territorial species that should be provided with numerous hiding places amongst bogwood, plants, rocky caves and cobbles. When keeping more than one specimen it is important to create visual barriers between each hiding place. Ideally, these loaches should be provided with brook/hillstream aquarium conditions incorporating a high flow rate and well oxygenated water - please see Hillstream Loaches: Specialists at Life in the Fast Lane for a more detailed explanation.

Feeding: Will eagerly accept most aquarium fare offered - sinking catfish pellets, flake, frozen foods such as mosquito larvae, brineshrimp, daphnia etc.

Water parameters: pH: 6-7.5, Hardness: Soft and slightly acidic is best. Max dh: 12.

Temperature: 60ºF to 77ºF (16-25°C)

Breeding: None reported in aquarium.

Notes: Notable for its massive head and unusual markings, Schistura finis is a rare import.

Martin,
I removed the 'Well Oxygenated' from the Water Parameters field because there is not a place for a comment in that data entry location. You do address it in the Care section. Do you need a duplication of the comment? If so please post it in the Caption section of the image, or elsewhere where text comment is available.

Sorry. There are limitations in each of these fields as arranged in the database.

No, that's cool.

Martin.
