My loach has a lump...

Post by yellowsub9 » Tue Dec 09, 2008 8:42 pm

Hi,

Anybody ever seen this on your guys? I've had him for about 3 months and he is healthy and active. Do I need to be concerned about this - He's had it since I brought him home. The lump has grown just a little.
Thanks for your help and comments. It's right above the small circle and boxed in.

Jim

Look up some pictures of Lyphocystis. Maybe this is what it is. If so there is no cure, but the fish can live a long time with it. While slightly contagious, I would go ahead and keep other fish with this one, in a community setting, but no breeding pairs, and be careful about moving fish out of this tank, they might carry it to another tank.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

Perhaps it's just swelling from an injury. That's all it looks like to me.

It does look like it was scraped up a bit towards the tail after the bump. Has the loach been fighting or is there anything in the tank that it could get stuck in?

What you see is what you get....this is exactly the way I got him. He wasnt the best specimen but the price was right for a six incher!

I saw something like that come and go (wasn't there for more than a few days I think) on one of my loaches once, for whatever that might be worth...
