Skinny clown

Post by T » Sun Jun 22, 2008 6:25 pm

Hi guys sorry my first post is a question :(

Ok so one of my clowns has come down with this skinny disease. In the main tank he began losing weight and since the other fish and his clown mates were so greedy he found it hard to get enough food in his weakened state and went downhill fast. I wormed the tank with levamisole(levacide) but saw no improvement. I moved him to another tank with smaller fish where I could keep a closer eye on him. However he was now off his food completly and I was sure I would lose him. Eventually he began taking frozen bloodworms and as he got stronger began eating more vigourously. Well now he eats anything and in big quantities. However he just doesnt put any weight on.

Any ideas? Thanks :)

I'd try a different medication. Levamisole treats only roundworms.

Prazipro/ Praziquantel will treat flatworms.

You could also use an anti-biotic in combination with the Prazipro, like Marycn I & II. Sometimes just the anti-biotics help.

Hi I know its a long time since I posted this. I actually had forgotten I had. My clown is still happy enough and eating like a pig but still skinny. I would say that he's put on a little bit of weight since I posted this and I've setup a little target feeder for him so none of the other fish can get his share. I used a tube that only he can fit in with a funnel at the top and some loose netting round the opening. I put in frozen bloodworm, chopped prawns and finely chopped beefheart.

But I really want to get him back to full health so he can go back with his buddies in my big tank.

Ok the Levamisole seems to be innnefective so I have purchased "Kusuri Discus Wormer Plus" which says its a "Flubendazole" based medication. What else would I need to use in combination or should this be enough. I'm in the UK so I cannot get Marycn.

Thanks :)

Hi!.
You can order Maracyn online from Petco.com

I live in Norway and have a similar problem with getting meds, but online purchasing works fine. I have also just finished a cure with the combo flubenol/Maracyn. The fish showed no sign of gaining weight after the dewormer cure was finished (3 rounds) , but as soon as the Maracyn was used, they have gained weight rapidly :D

I could actually get it sent by a friend from the states or Canada. Is this legal, also which one did you use Maracyn 1 or 2?

In my country it`s not legal, but I have gotten it sent twice, and theres been no problem with customs. I would guess it`s not legal in the UK either. Sometimes one has to take a risk to save the fish.

I used both Maracyn 1+2 together.

Hey T :D

Don't know if you saw my post on O fish.

Maracyn can be ordered online and is not problem getting to to the UK. I have ordered if a couple of times to keep ahead of dates-though I do mine via ebay :D

I use a combo of both Maracyn and Myracyn at the same time. Prazipro can also be ordered in the same way w/o problems.

Flubenol, like levamisole, treats roundworms also. What you might need to try is Praziquantel, which is in Prazipro.

The Maracyn might do the trick also.
