Hi randallhfx, welcome to Loaches.
Kuhlies and other Loaches are known for doing whatever you least expect. Although some Loaches tend to be nocturnal, and prefer to hide in caves, even these species can be out swimming around at all hours.

Highly likely they are just getting used to the new setting, and will settle down in a week or two. Very common for them to swarm up and down one side of the tank, too.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!
