? on using Levasole (Levamisole Hydrochloride in pill form)

Post by comet » Mon Sep 21, 2009 2:51 pm

I have to treat a 10 gallon tank for Camallanus.

I've only found Levasole pills near me and I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to measure the correct dosage. And how many pills should I buy. They had only 3 left for .49cents each.

There is .184 grams of Levamisole Hydrochloride in each tablet.

Thanks.

PS
This is the article I had read from this forum. But it didn't detail dosage amounts for pill form.

Thanks for your reply to my ?.

Did you dissolve the Levasole pill in some tank water first?

Any guidance you can give me would be appreciated.

PS I believe I saw your reply on the other forum. Thanks.
I thought I'd post this reply about dosing here too, to help others who might need the same info.

Crush the pill and wrap it in a coffee filter. I use a rubber band to close the coffee filter.
Then put this in the flow of water, for example tuck it into a HOB filter where the water starts to flow over the edge, but far enough back so it is secure. The location may very with whatever sort of filter you have.

The coffee filter could be in the tank, but the stronger flow of water is best to dissolve it and leach out the medicine.
The next day there will still be powder (soggy wet, of course) in the coffee filter, but the active ingredient has been dissolved out and is in the tank.

The dose of 1 tablet per 20 gallons sounds the same as I used; 1/8 tablet for a 3 gallon, but I think the tank really did not hold 3 full gallons of water.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

Thanks for that info on how to disperse it in the tank.

How long do you leave the coffee filter with the crushed pill in the tank filter?

How long do you wait until you do your first water change. 3 days?

I was also wondering if a filter media bag would work for this or if that would not be "fine" enough to catch the small debris from the pill. I do have coffee filters if that is better for the job.

I have an Aquaclear 30 on it, so I'll rig something up to hold the coffee filter in place.

I left the crushed pill in there 24 hours, then did a water change 24 hours after removing the coffee filter/pill.
Do a thorough gravel vac to pick up fallen worms, eggs, and anything else.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly, you did the water change 48 hours after first putting in the pill? ---
wait 24 hours for the pill to be taken out and then another 24 hours do a water change?

Thank you for the replies. They are very much appreciated!
