Salt and ich meds please help!!!!!

Post by dumbtalkingbird » Thu Sep 09, 2010 4:37 pm

I have a 20 gallon tank that is well developed and I randomly woke up to a dead glow fish and a 2 mollys with ich and a rosy barb with ich. It seemed to happen over night. I am very worried about my loach and there has been so much yes for salt, no for salt, yes for quick cure, no for quick cure online so can someone who has had fish for a long time and somewhat of a preofessional please give me a straight answer. I love my loach and I don't want him to die. or any of my other fish for that matter.

What type of loach, size of tank, how many other fish, what are your water stats?

Also read the ich sticky above which holds almost everything you need to know about whitespot.

I have a 20 gallon tank with: two rosy barbs, 3 glow fish(one died this morning) so just 2 now, 2 algae eaters, one kuhli loach, 2 orange mollies, 2 black orange mollies and one frog.

My tank has been well developed so I don't think over crowding is the issue but I just don't know if the Kuhli loach will be able to handle the half dose of quick cure that has formalin and malachite in it. I also put a half does of salt in the tank and some web sites say half dose is fine and others say none at all so I am just really confused. I know the other fish can handle the medication but the loach is my main concern. I have a spare tank i can clean out and put him in but I just don't know what to do. He is not showing signs yet but i know the tank is infected.

How about slowly raising the temp and doing very thorough vacuuming and 25% water changes? I don't like to do medicines, since I tend to lose the fish from the meds. Read the stickie on the ick carefully. It has lots of excellent advice.
