Can I cry on your shoulders? Dead kuhli

We had a terrible thing happen here. A week ago, I removed a corner box filter (air-driven) from my kuhli tank and set it aside in a bucket. Things have been busy here, so it was only today that I was able to clean up the filter to put it away. We were horrified to find the remains of a kuhli in the very bottom of the filter--in that 1/2" gap under the floss and carbon. The poor thing!! I never thought to look for a loach in that box. He must have entered by swimming against the air bubbles down through the bubble lift-tube.
I love my kuhlis. They are my favorite loach, and this just makes me sick.
Thanks for listening.

Sorry to hear this. I know how you feel. I've caused a few sad loach mishaps myself In the past.

Loaches are great at getting into odd places, sorry you lost him.

Thank you, chefkeith and Diana.
I will be carefully checking everything from now on. I have a piece of driftwood in my 55 gallon that I always check before removing it. There is a kubotai that likes to wedge in a crack in the driftwood.
I've removed that filter box dozens of times to replace the filter media, and never was there a kuhli in it. The one time I was removing it permanently was the time one decided to get inside. Lesson learned.

Sadly, that sounds like a kuhli. The one that I have as my avatar has a teensy little scar behind his eye from his curiosity surrounding my filter intake. One day it got too much and he decided to swim up it.
He stays way from it now.

Hi kuhlifan,
Yes, you're right, it does sound like a kuhli. My filter intakes on my power filters are covered with sponges to protect the baby shrimp--plus it protected the kuhlis when they were smaller. Now I know to check everything for the little guys.
Glad your guy survived his mishap.
