Loaches Online Forum

I've moved my clown loaches into a new tank last week although their old filter and water went with them. I've been paying special attention to them in case they got stressed and came down with something. Today I noticed one of them itching from time to time and have noticed a pimple type spot on his side. Is this the start of white spot or something else. I have taken some photos.

Water params are fine as I used RO water to top up in the new tank and I'm checking them daily.





I should mention that I have the following at my disposal,

I'm not sure what that is. Perhaps an infection from a bump or scrape?

I'd love to see pics of the new tank if you have any.

There are currently only 4 clowns in there, but I intend to add more. I started off with 2 Electric Blue Jack Dempseys and the Clown's were added for company, but slowly they have crept into my affections and I now they are the focus.

Just hope they all keep well.

The tank is 60x18x24 (430 litres), has 2 Eheim 2028 filters and a UV unit.

I know the loaches will outgrow this and goodness knows where I'm going to put a bigger tank to accomodate them.

I got your email and sent a reply, although I don't think I was much help (sorry). How is the clown looking now? Hopefully it is no worse and with good water quality etc this will diappear of its own accord. As I mentioned to you, one of my large clowns once developed a sort of 'pimple' near the gill cover which came and went over a period of a few weeks (this was a couple of years ago).

The tank is looking great. Steve said he never noticed the dolphins on the wall above it when he delivered it. We have the exact same dolphin piece on the wall above our clown tank too (how spooky! ), the only difference is I painted our dolphins silver.

Apart from the physical pimple on the side of one clown all occupants are doing very well, active and eating like there is no tomorrow. I'm going to do a water change today and try the Flubendazole as you mentioned. Certainly cannot do any harm to eliminate internal parasites.

How long does the Wormer Plus (Flubendazole) take to work. i.e How long should I hold off from water changes. I did a good water change for several days before adding to the tank, so they should be ok for a while.

I suspect I have some snails in one of my filters so I will be inspecting that for dead ones regulary as I don't want any water polution from there.

i works almost immediately Dave, if your fish do have worms you should be able to see them coming out of the anus fairly quickly, but you have to redose as it won't get rid of the eggs.
i usually redose a month laterto make sure.

i have a loach who suddenly got a big lump come up on her side (you know when you bang your head and get a lump, it looked like that), and i was so worried. asfter a while it dissappeared again. occasionally it comes back, only to go again. hopefully your loach will do do the same.

OK well fingers crossed then. I don't think there is anything more I can do. They get so many water changes normally, between 25 and 50 litres per day I'm giving myself a bad back.
