lampeye panchax

Post by kaz » Mon Dec 15, 2008 5:25 pm

Hello

I have kept the little blue lampeye dudes for sometime now and have recently bought a small exta bunch of 10. Unfortunately quite a number of them perished - 2 the first night, then 1 unfortunately must have been cornered by the others and got stuck between suckers on the filter/ powerhead and the glass (by the time I noticed unfortunately it was too late), another 1 for no apparent reason, then 1 has completely disappeared no sign, no body, and hasnt leapt out the tank! (with only them and 2 shrimp in the q tank)- I then decided to move them into the big tank (after 2 months in q tank) - moved the remaining 5 to join the others. 1 has disappeared and another has swim bladder issues I think. This leaves 4 healthy lil dudes out of the original 10. This seems like poor statistics to me. Does anyone else have problems with these lil dudes?

The water has been tested - 7.2 ph
0ppm No2
between 0 + 5ppm No3
0ppm NH3/ NH4
>6d GH
3d KH

I hope it is just bad luck and not something I am doing wrong - am I doing something wrong? No sudden water changes, sand/ pebbles mix, 25% water change once a week, established cycled tanks...am I missing anything out?

Any help/ advice appreciated because I really like these little fish and I have a bunch of them that I have had since 2004 and they are still going strong and healthy.

Kaz
