I like this!

Perhaps a sticky linking Martin's food recipe would be good. Comments about how you can add medicines to the food might be a good idea, too.

Do you want me to write up a fishless cycle article to be stickied?

A link to Shari's articles about skinny disease and Levamisole would be great, too.

I second the martin's food recipe and how to add meds that will still be effective after freezing...( hmmm...).

How would that work, Diana? What meds do you think would work mixed into the food, or should that only happen once defrosted? What kind of shelf life (ok - freezer life  ) would different meds have?

Interesting idea. 8)

The fishless cycling article idea would be great, I think. Perhaps to put up on the main site with a link either from here or the Loach forum?

I'll get right on that. I'll put links to the main site disease & treatment section. Additional data re: meds added to food can be added once Shari's important Q's are answered. Quite out of my realm I'm afraid.

You two are the best at this. An article would be absolutely awesome Diana :P

I have added kitten/puppy wormer to frozen food. Piperazine is the active ingredient.
I am not sure it is still viable after freezing, but the fish have not died yet. I have fed this medicine twice as a prevention in all the tanks.

Getting the dose right is tricky, because when meds are in food you are trying to get the blood level correct, which depends on the fish eating the food. To make some sort of stock of medicated food would take some research into how much meds ought to be in the food. It would be up to the fish keeper to package the food in "single serving" sizes.

What I did for the wormer was make a wild guess at how many pounds of fish I was feeding (all my fish put together), and add enough medicine to dose them all once to one meal's worth of food. When I fed that package of food I divided it among all the tanks.
If I had to treat just a Q-tank I would break off the amount I wanted to feed.

This site has directions about mixing meds in feed, including frozen food and dry foods. If this link does not go to the list of their products click on products and scroll down. There are 4-5 pages, and each product has dosing, and whether it can be mixed with food and how to do this.
