So guys I recently post a question about my goldfish, he hurt him self by getting trapped by silk plant, (which has none been removed) & had 1 blood line on dorsal fin.
All this I've cleared up & both the tail & dorsal fin are slowly regrowing.

However! Where it has regrown its got a very dark colour almost black, but not quite.
What is this black edge? It only where the tail was damaged. Other wise the fish looks fine, active, eating & alert. There is nothing else to suggest its sick.
I do water changing x2 week 50% with gravel cleaner, mainly live plants, & the fish gets various diet which includes, blood worms, daphina & brine shrimp as treast. I also feed pellets as find flakes seems to make the goldfishes bloated.

I feared the problem was fin rot, looking at pictures in books I've got it not simler at all.
I ask the aquatics shop, he think its just where it was badly hurt & its just trying to reheal??

I'm not sure what to think, if anyone has experinced same problem, or knows if I should be worried I'd be grateful.

Not a problem at all.
Goldfish, when they are healing, occasionally produce some extra cells that produce the black color, called Melanopores (and I have probably mangled the spelling)
Sometimes the extra black will go away over time (weeks to months) other times it is here to stay. In a show fish that must not have any black this could be a problem. In a pet this is not a problem at all.

Keep up the water changes, keep up the rotation of foods and so on so your fish will continue to heal and be healthy.

Goldfish are usually quite hardy souls. Your fish seems to have the same as my parents fish. For reasons unknown he keeps losing part of his top - dorsal fin and it's not fin rot. We suspect something naturally occuring in the water. His regrowing fin has black patches on it.

(I might take our test kit up to test the water next time I go.)

If he's swimming and eating then that is a good sign and he should recover mostly if not fully.

We use melafix if our crazy Shubunkin and goldfish sustain any damage to themselves which is an antiseptic and seems to help the healing process. Also lots of water changes.

He should recover fine.
