Post by Heligrin » Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:43 am

Hey,

Simple question about AP Quick Cure for Ich. Do i treat 1/2 dose every day without doing a water change or do i do a water change and then half dose every time?

Thanks!

http://www.aq-products.com/APpro/quickcure.htm

Day 1: Thorough gravel vac, water change as needed. Dose.
Day 2: Dose
Day 3: Dose
Day 4: 25% or larger water change, thorough gravel vac, Dose.
Day 5: Dose
Day 6: Dose
Day 7: 25% or larger water change, thorough gravel vac, Dose.
...and so on.
I would prefer to see more frequent gravel vacs, because you are removing the Ich that has fallen off the fish, hopefully before it breeds.

Read the label on your dechlor. Some (Amquel) cannot be used with dye based medicines.

Lots of Ich info at this link:

http://www.skepticalaquarist.com/docs/health/ich.shtml

Ich cannot be killed in just a few days. By the time you see it in the tank, on the fish it is highly likely in more than one phase of its life cycle, and only one phase (Tomites) can be killed by any medicine. You need to keep medicating until ALL the ich has had enough time to go through 2 life cycles (just in case some got through the first treatment).
This will take time, depending on tank temperature:
About a week or bit less for one life cycle in the upper 70s to low 80sF (upper 20sC)
Closer to 1.5 weeks for one life cycle in the lowest 70s or room temperature. (around 20*C)
A month or longer at pond temperatures (low 60s)

Basically, figure on treating the tank for a minimum of 2 weeks, PLUS several days beyond the day you see the last spot on the fish.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!
