Post by emi-chan » Sat Oct 02, 2010 6:56 pm

how to you calm a goldfish that has just cut herself. not that seriously but it looks like it hurts since she keeps shaking her head

there's a loose bit of skin on her head hanging off where she's hit the glass

i know to keep the water clean now to let the cut heal properly

Keeping the water extra clean is usually a matter of doing enough water changes to keep the NO3 under 10 ppm. Certain diseases and fungi may try to move in on the injured area, and the lowest possible nitrates helps the fish to fight off these potential infections.

Doing thorough gravel vacs is really helpful, too. This removes a lot of the organic matter that may harbor bacteria, and can interfere with the effects of medications, if you need to add any.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!
