I agree 100% - I have a school of 10. I think a smaller school would tend to lead to more squabbles - they seem to be a bit nippier towards each other than the kubotai. Kubotai is without a doubt a great choice, particularly for a smaller tank!

Tinman, would an Eheim prof II 2026 or 2028 do? It would be a big investment for me (I'm a poor student), but I think I could manage. I would just have to look if the Ferplast will allow an external filter.

I can't say as I am saving myself for some Turbelle pumps....I have never had either of your options myself.

I've come across an external filter by JBL. The owner of a small Dutch Loach forum has bought one and it has 1500 l/h pump and 12 l filter volume as well as 4 year warranty. Sounds like a good choice and is cheaper than an Eheim.

Not always, B. dario seems to be a bit of a problem when kept in groups of more than 8, if I remember correctly.

Not so sure I get it either Dutch, and that type of language is rarely (really rarely!) appropriate in this forum.

"Dutch" is Arnold Schwarzenegger's character is the first Predator. Directorate thought that our forum Dutch was using that name because of the movie....rather than the fact that they are actually Dutch.

That makes it more logical. I didn't remember the name of the character, just the quote. It's been a long time that I saw that movie.

Directorate, I indeed use the name Dutch as a reference to the country I live in. (the Netherlands)
It's a good movie though, and a timeless quote like the "I'll be back"-bit.

I was just looking at the prices of the Loaches, is it normal for kubotai to be about three or four times more expensive than histrionica? (They are listed in the same size category.)

I'm still trying to figure out the best tank setup and someone pointed Crossocheilus siamensis out to me as a better tank mate for the Loaches than a couple of pleco's. They should also be kept in a group of 4 - 6, so it would fill up the tank more than with one or two pleco's. Would 8 B. histrionica combine well with 5 C. siamensis in my tank size? (I would leave out the kubotai.) I just saw a couple of C. siamensis in the shop and they are really nice fish, plus, they're very useful.

Thanks for the tip Directorate, but as I said, me using that name has nothing to do with the movie.

Back on topic.
I would still like to know if 8 B. histrionica combine well with 5 C. siamensis in my tank of 110cm x 45cm(depth) x 58cm(hight), 230 liters/60 gallons.
Does anyone know?

I know Mark Janssen had some problems with a group of C. siamensis, but in general most I see of them is that they are easy going fish.
