Seeing as my juvenile Sid's have hogged the lime light lately I thought it only fair to post a couple of pictures of some of the possible parents:

They live in a 75 gallon tank along with a mixed shoal of Rasbora heteromorpha & Rasbora espei as well as small groups of Danio choprae, Puntius gelius and Puntius pentazona, there are also a group of Kuhli loaches in there as well as 8 Mesonoemacheilus guentheri.

Yeah they are all fully banded Mick, some have just one or two bands that meet up underneath but there are a few that pretty much every band meets up underneath the body.

Hi Mark , this is interesting , i must admit i used to think it was a sexual thing i.e. the males had mainly whitish stomach areas ,wheras the females had the bars [lines ] that went through the body from top to bottom ? it seems now that this must be an area caught thing ?
although to be honest i thought that all Sidthimunki were captive bred ? as they are rumoured to be rae or even extinct

To be honest I thought the same with regards to the banding and there was some difference in the banding of these sid's until around 6 months ago when they all started developing the bands

Nice lookin little fellas there! I am really still deciding what I want to add to my 240 along with clowns and striata, I was thinking either sids or dario... the dario would be a lot cheaper, half the price on franks website. But your sids looks so sharp...

I don't really like putting anyone off sid's as they are probably my favourite loach by far but personally I wouldn't hose sid's with either Clowns or striata, sid's are not vicious but very inquisitive and almost like that little gang of bullies that go around harassing other kids just for the shear fun of it, to cut down on this a little you need a large shoal of maybe 15+ in my opinion.

The dario would be a good choice or see if you can get hold of any histrionica.

A lot of this is personal preference , though on the Sids i agree with Mark ! i remember having a group of about six Sid's in what would now be termed a grrrr tank, with some of the more boisterous sp/s S.Helodes, S.Beauforti , etc, etc, AND they could hold their own , no problem! on the other hand i had four B.Dario and they seemed to be the underdogs, and yet Emma had a totally different experience with Dario's they terrorised her Clown loaches , I keep a large group of Dario's with Rostrata's and Almorhae's together without problems , SO i guess its down to a lot of different factors , and possibly a bit of luck , sometimes a bit of experimentation is needed , that way we can all learn of each other . so go ahead and try some of your ideas , JUST be prepared to make adjustments if nessasary .

Thanks for the info! I never really would have thought that tiny sids could bother big ol clowns! lol. But I do realize even with normally passive fish eash one is different, and many have different experiences like this. Shoal size shouldnt be an issue, I plan on getting probably 24 of whatever I decide, either dario, sids, or maybe histrionica (will probably order from franksaquarium.com, they have them all, and locally they are very rare and double those prices). I also plan on increasing my group of zebras to 24 also, and maybe a couple more clowns to bring my clowns to 8-12. I was even debating just having clowns and striata, but I'd really like a 3rd species, not sure yet.
