Nice young specimens. But I'll beg with you to get them in a tank with sand. These guys are made for burrowing, and I suspect that burrowing is a fundamental part of their health/life-cycle. Mine spend about 20% of their time above ground - as far as I can tell. I know the thread title was tongue in cheek, but they have a long face to facilitate time under the substrate. You are obliged to deliver, IMO.

A. choirorhynchus is one of the most amazing species to watch.
Your vantage point determines what you can see.

Agreed; mine only surface for feeding time if even. A definate compulsory for sand if keeping these guys :wink:

JWhipple,

Is it a function of the photos or does the littler guy seem to have some redness on his nose? They really do stuff their faces into the substrate. . .

I just looked at the originals (no alterations in Paint Shop) - the redness isn't there... Go figure?

I just read the post in the freshwater forum about switching gravel to sand - don't feel bad, I'm there too.

What kind of loaches are those?
