YoYo Loach Behavior

Post by ryman » Tue Mar 11, 2008 8:35 pm

Hello all, I am new to the forum and new to loaches!

I have recently purchased 4 yoyo loaches that are about 3/4 of an inch long and are currently in my 10 gallon tank as my new 75 is currently being set up. So in a couple of months I will move the loaches to the 75 and probably add another two or three.

Anyway, my 10 has a sand substrate and many rocks that form a cave like structure in the back, and it has two java ferns and a valisneria. My question is it normal for the yoyos to swim up and down the tank wall constantly without end. Whenever I look at the tank I see two yoyos just swimming up and down the wall. The other two occasionally join in but they also venture around the rest of the tank. The first two are confined to the back left corner of the tank next to the HOB filter. Is there something the matter or am I just being crazy?

Thanks! :D

This is common among Loaches. It may calm down once they are settled in, but some Loaches do this more than others. I had some Kuhlies that would do this every evening, at just about lights out.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!
