Unknown Gastros
Well, as luck would have it, today I wandered into the only non-chain fish store left in town. I seldom go in there since it tends to be a mostly saltwater store.
Imagine my surprise to find a couple of Gastromyzon scitulus. I was going to take one home, when I noticed another different looking fish in the shadows. When the store clerk moved things around, I saw two stripey looking gastros!!! I had him bag them up plus one of the scitulus and took them home. They had been in the store for a couple of weeks or more but will still get some Q time.
After looking at the species index and Dr. Tan's book, I am still not sure what they are. The look quite a bit like zebrinus but with vermicular stripes that extend almost to the eyes. Looking in Dr. Tan's book it only lists G. crenastus as living in the same streams as scitulus. They do look a bit like crenastus, too, but again, have more vermicular stripes. The tail has a bit of blue down the center which is typical of zebrinus and crenastus.I suppose I will be able to get a better look once they settle in and color up.
Unfortunately, I STILL have camera problems and am presently not able to buy a new one. I will try to get my old camera fired up again this weekend and see if I can get some pics.

Bad news on the gastro front....no the fish are still alive and acting fiesty. The bad news is that there are a couple of spots on these fish that may be ich. I looked at them closely yesterday and did not notice anything but it can be difficult to see ich on spotted fish. I will keep an eye on them and probably begin treatment tomorrow just to be on the safe side.
Also bad news on the camera front, I spent some time on the phone with a Canon rep and my camera probably has some technical issues that will prevent me from getting the pics out of the camera. I am going to try a few more things, but it isn't looking good.
I may just break down, an buy a new camera as soon as I can afford it.

Well, just for you Emma, I got the camera problem resolved until I can get a new one. I can now both take and download pics with my old camera.
Now if the gastros will cooperate. I took a pic of all three of the new ones on a rock but it was very blurry. I will have to re-learn how to use this camera so be patient.

Well, the pics won't be of the same caliber as yours, Martin's, Mad Duff's Graeme's...etc.. but at least they might show some cool fish.
By the way, did you see the one of my giant cheni? And then there are the scenery pics in the OT.
I am hoping to get some soon of the new gastros, and the large speciments of some hillstream species that I have.
