yup helen the same amount of time, and i have 11 in the tank.
all the lighter coloured fish have grown the largest.
on a note all the botia's in this tank have a good growth rate.
i read on another thread that people with kubotai had very little growth over a long period, in my tank i have a couple that have doubled in size in a relatively short period.

Beautiful B. striatas!

I've been a bit busy these past few days but will try to see how big the specimens in the shop display tank have got. Helen can help me have a good look on Saturday, when we are meeting up with David Pricey (daspricey) who's dad is driving him down to the shop from York!

Mick, i would like to know your secret. you will have to pester Andy - or bribe him by buying him a fish if he drives

there's no secret Helen, there's always one tank that will give this better growth more than another tank.
i'll try with Andy but i doubt if he'll take the bait.

Hi Emma , i'd love to come down, but i cant see it being this year ? i know it would be nice to see whats available in other areas , but i must say the local choice is pretty good ! i suppose thats the beauty of the internet !

I know you also have a great choice up there Andy, but us LOLers that have met up several times before would also love to meet you and Mick someday - we honestly wouldn't expect you to buy anything - maybe one summer when the daylight is longer we can all meet up at the shop and have time to get some lunch down the local pub as well?

Damn, Hels, that Norwich City mug didn't seem to swing it for Andy.

it's slightly of topic, but i had to show this cos it's the biggest striata ive ever seen, this fish measures 3.5 inch SL and beautifully marked.
can you imagine a tank of around 150 of this size.
this is one of the fish i picked up at pier aquatics on sunday,
well i could'nt leave it there could i ?.
between Andy and i we took 12 away with us and were going back for more.HAHA
andy told me something about the striata in sexing them that Menon wrote.
he says that the difference is in the ventral/pelvic fins, if you study yours the smaller fins are male that don't extend to the anus, whereas the females extend to and sometimes past the anus.

Stunning fish Mick ! its nearly as big as the one i got

Looking at these Striatas in comparrison to the big one in Emma's pic , what strikes me is the difference in colouration , i suppose it could be the newness of these , or possible location variation ? very interesting , come on Emma youll have to take some more pics

yours seemed darker with almost white lines inbetween the yellow lines

That's a beautiful looking striata, something to strive for! Mine have seemed to grow in spurts (like my kids

). Where one day I'll look at them and think "wow, they've gotten really chunky", but still, nothing like you have there, I'm going to have to up the "meat" methinks

Hi Bully , in no way can me or Mick take any credit for the Growth of these Striatas , and i'd agree with the slowish growth rates in Striata's, it just seemed an ideal oppertunity to get hold of large mature specimens !
In fairness i'd guess these largish specimens aren't that old ? i suppose in their optimum surroundings [the wild] these fishes can grow at a really fast rate ?
I dont know if anyone has studied the captive ages of Striata's ? both Mick and i have small specimens also i've often wondered if having large fish introduced to a tank of small fish encoureges growth , or inhibites growth ?
I suppose we might find out ? BUT aquariums are really just glass cages , each with a different chemical make up ! so not an accurate gauge ?
Interesting though , the beauty of the Striata as a subject is they do tend to vary a bit in pattern , and colouration !
