Namal kamalgoda, Yes the seeds are removed, partly for safty of the fish, and the additional mess that they would create. Theres two ways I use to weigh the melon down depending on size. For the smaller chunks I used the little weights you get with plants, for the larger pieces, I use a 'Screwcumber'

Mick, Yes I have found it to be fairly messy, but they enjoy it so much and prefer it over cucumber that Ive given in to it, but only at weekends so I can change the water after; I find it clogs the internals quite a bit as well.
I usually leave it in the tank for a few hours or if they have stopped showing an interest in it. In those pic's theres about 1/3 of a melon, it took them 3-4hours to have all the flesh stripped off, they love their fruit
