Can't find kuhli loaches

Post by ChrisRalano » Thu May 22, 2008 2:53 pm

Hi Everyone,

Lately I've have been having some trouble finding kuhli loaches for sale and was wondering if anyone knew where I might be able to find some.

Also, it is my understanding that they don't ship very well and that is why they are unavailable online. I haven't actually tried ordering them online because of this. I was just wondering if this was true.

A few months ago I saw that Fosters and Smith had black kuhli loaches for sale and I wouldn't think that they would sell them online if the loaches wouldn't make it through the trip. However, I did notice that Fosters and Smith no longer offers them online. Is this because they don't survive during
shipment?

Thanks for your help.
Chris

I think a lot of people on here have had good experiences with http://franksaquarium.com. I'm planning on ordering from him myself, but haven't yet, so I can't give you a first-hand recommendation. Look under "brookstream loaches" for lots of pangio species.

He's in NY, might even be close enough to pick the kuhlis up yourself.

I think it's not the short trips that do them in, it's being imported from Asia, and not having very specialized care once they arrive at the distributors.

My experience has been that if I buy kuhlis that have survived at least a week in the store before I buy them, they survive. Though half of mine were owner turn-ins, or given to me by other fish keepers.

Yeah Frank is a great guy to deal with. Very honest and really listens to his customers.

Thanks for recommending Frank's Aquarium for kuhli loaches. I ordered six of the them and they are scheduled to be delivered this Thursday. I can't wait!! I truly LOVE kuhli loaches!

Also, the shipping didn't come out to be as much as I paid and so Frank is refunding part of my shipping costs. Its nice to deal with an honest merchant.

Hi,
in the past i've had very bad experiences with Khulis from the LFS (like half or all of them dying within a few days).
I got 6 from Frank's about 4 weeks ago, and I've had a 100% survival rate!

I got six kuhli loaches delivered from Franks last Thursday and they all arrived very healthy and they seem happy in my aquarium. I already had two kuhli loaches in the tank from before. They've been in the tank for a long time, but I knew they needed more friends :)

I was only able to find two at a pet store in my area, which is why I only had two of them in the first place. I was very pleased with the loaches I got from Franks Aquarium.

As soon as I get more time I'll post some pictures of them. They are really cute!

By the way - what is the LFS?

Thanks, that's what I thought the acronym stood for, but I wanted to ask just to be sure. :D
