Hemimyzon formosanus

Post by Emma Turner » Tue May 27, 2008 8:46 pm

These beauties came in tonight under the 'Taiwanese Hillstream Loach - Hemimyzon formosanus' nametag. These pics of them in the bag are not that great, but you can see the potential! 8) Will try for better shots in-tank over the next few days:

The 'flag tails' were very prominant, literally as soon as I took the bag out of the box, I could see them clearly (a lot of fish look very plain when they are initially taken out of the shipping box).

Emma, you're always lucky to get fish seldom available! That's why I admire you and your fish.

I did manage to take some photos this evening, but will have to wait until tomorrow to upload & post them as it is late here. Pics were extremely difficult (this species makes Sinogastromyzon wui seem brave & outgoing!), so please don't expect the best pics I've ever taken..... :?

I was wondering if they would be shy. I guess you answered that question.
I suppose I can wait until Monday to see the pics.

As promised.

I must add that these photos do not do these beautiful hillstream loaches much justice. To the eye, they are a reflective, shimmering silver colour with dark markings.

Because they were being so very shy (and they are on the top row of the system, which means a vertically challenged person like myself can only balance on the top of a ladder for so long) I decided to try adding a couple to a photo tank. Needless to say, they were very cross about this and lost a lot of their colour/markings.

I will try for more (better) pics sometime soon. Hope you enjoyed looking through them!
