what type of loaches are they?
can you describe what they are doing to give you impression they are about to drop eggs?
i have never managed to get mine to lay eggs, and i dont know much about it, it doesnt seem all that common.
any documantation you can give would be very helpfull

they are clown loaches. ive got 6 in tank. bought them 2 at a time. the biggest and one of first two that we bought couple years back, couple weeks ago we noticed one was really getting getting like a belly on it widening at the bottom of it. we also notice one of the smaller ones developing same belly. the two have kinda taken control of the little pipe cave they like to hide in. they also became very active at feedings hunting out all scraps. wife called me at work this morning and said that it had some white stuff kinda coming from it. and the others are all staying kinda close to her and all are keeping there spines out alot. something we dont see much of. fairly certain she gonna drop eggs.

Hi dadams, welcome to Loaches Online.
How large (approx) are all your clowns? Are you confident you have females and males present? What size tank are they in at the moment?
There are a few botiid species that we see regularly fill with eggs, but spawning them is a bit if an enigma.

the two oldest are close to 5 inches with the smallest 3 in approx
currently they are still in a 40 gallon tank. working on a larger tank but space for tank became unavailable while remodeling. as far as sex goes i never even tried to find out since id heard they dont spawn in captviity. but it must be filled with eggs considering we only noticed that her size couple weeks ago and the rate at which she expanded. she got real wide and flat on bottom

Could you provide any photographs of the fish concerned? Unfortunately, a full looking belly area is not always indicative of being gravid. Is the white stuff coming from the vent? The raising of the spines for prolonged periods (when not engaging in combat) can be a sign of distress. I take it the water quality is all fine (any test results you have would be helpful).

yeah i took some pics 2 days ago i will post in a few hrs after i get off work. yeah water quality is ok about time for a partial change. wife saw the white stuff come out she also said the the other oldest has been staying beside her continuously. loaches arent be agressive with each other but there 2 bala's in tank and a pink kisser. i snap some new pics if they will cooperate lol.
I never heard of a clown develop eggs in just 2 weeks. In some cases, clowns get a swollen belly due to internal infections, but lets hope that's not the case. I'm looking forward to seeing some pics.
What is the nitrate level of the water usually?
What is the water change regimen on the tank?
What do you feed the fish in the tank?
How much and how often do you feed the fish in the tank also?
I'd like to get a good idea of the water conditions.

it was more than 2 weeks it was 2 weeks since wife notice the bulge was there and growing. we been paying attention since then. her shape was noticable different she was flattening off on bottom of belly and the bulging sides really grew
welll havent tested water in a long time but i can after i get off in an hr or so
i do change out about 25%of the water about once a week and about every 3or4 months about half water is changed. ive use bio wheel filter and ive got a fluval 404. water has never been very bad except the time my boy dumped half or more a container of crips into tank and i didnt find out till i got home from work. developed a problem with pink kisser started getting fin rod as result. got everything cleaned and cleared up for a bit now.
they are fed morning and evening most of the time they get tropical crisps and freeze dried brine shrimp every few days. last loach i bought was a piggy and he would eat so much when he was little his belly would bulg. but not since hes grown

Although a different botiid species, I thought you still might be interested to see this old thread of Kamphol's from the Loaches Online archives, which shows several pictures of Botia almorhae females in breeding condition: http://aquaweb.pair.com/forums/archives ... read=45074

My female Yo-Yo is swollen kind of like this. The area in the lower half of her body she is double her normal width. She is only 3.5" long but very wide in comparison to her length. Her companion is a male her same length and he look super skinny when laying near her. I seem to remember this happening before. Do they just fill with unfertilized eggs and then reassimilated them back into themselves after a while?Emma Turner wrote:Although a different botiid species, I thought you still might be interested to see this old thread of Kamphol's from the Loaches Online archives, which shows several pictures of Botia almorhae females in breeding condition: http://aquaweb.pair.com/forums/archives ... read=45074
