new vaillantella maassi behavior

Post by NancyD » Sat Oct 11, 2008 3:21 pm

I have 3 v. maassi & at least 1 is showing a pangio-like fondness for hanging in some floating Indian fern. He surprised me when I went to vacuum the tank the other day. He just slowly swam down to the bottom followed by a p.kuhli. It was back up a short time later & several times since.

I don't know if they find bits of food, escape the "alpha" maassi or just like the overgrown ferns. It doesn't seem ill.

I'll have to move the plants when I move the fish soon. I was going to add the pangios to a different tank but maybe I'll think again. It was supposed to be a temporary situation so the kuhlis could help the maassis adjust. Anyone else keep them together?

Hi Nancy,

I keep all my Vaillantella sp and Pangio sp together since day one. I have never had any problems with either groups getting on and I have a fair range of Pangio sp in that tank.

Mine all share a favourite log in the middle of the tank-they all hide under it together with little heads poking out :D

Thanks Ashleigh. I had a maassi beat up another but it was in a small quarrantine tank. The alpha has also bitten pangios but I guess not hard enough for them not to hang out with him sometimes.
