River tank manifold for a 30-40 gallon (3ft long)

Post by raecarrow » Mon Nov 17, 2008 3:17 pm

Hey everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone has been successful in setting up a river tank manifold in a 3ft tank before? I've been reading up on doing this and Some people have said that it is hard to setup one in a tank smaller then 4ft long. Is this true? I just want to do my homework before rushing into this. (Homework is about all I can do right now because I am going to be low on money for a month or two).

Its not that difficult to do-no harder than a manifold for a 4ft. The only problem, is as the aquarium is much shorter so you get current bouncing back off the opposite side of the powerheads. This hasn't really been a problem for me-the fish I have in there love the current. It might help to look at slightly weaker powerheads. I have maxijet 600's in the 2.5ft below and theres a lot of bounce, but it still does the job :)

I currently have an AquaClear 20 powerhead. I was considering getting another one and attaching them to the pipes. Would I need any other equipment? The powerhead I has blows bubbles so aeration shouldn't be a problem.

Yes you will be better with another powerhead if the width of your tank allows it. Im not familar with the Aqua powerheads-whats the output? Another way could be to have 3 pipes with 3 sponges but only 2 powerheads. Have you had a look at the drawings that Martin put up? That will show you all what you need :) Just make sure that everything fits and you have everything before starting-its a complete pain rushing around when your trying to build it trying to find stuff you forgot cause you were an idiot

The aquaclear 20 flow is 127gph. Would two of these be enough?
