oscars and clowns?

Post by mkoff32 » Tue Dec 30, 2008 2:59 am

I just watched a youtube video of a tank with 2 huge oscars and some smaller clowns. I'm new to keeping loaches and I've read about the immense differences in Ph and all that. That aside, won't the oscars eat the loaches? If the loaches are the same size, wouldn't the Oscars still mess with the loaches?

There isn't that much difference in the natural water chemistry range between the Oscars and Clowns but they do have different needs. Oscars are messy, aggressive fish and will not appreciate the flow needs of the Clowns and it would take a mega amount of filtration and tank maintenance to maintain the water quality the Loaches need. People can and do mix them but it isn't recommended.
So many species of fish yet so little time, space and money to keep them all...
