Youngest baby Kuhli's on record????

Hi everyone,

I have become the father of some Kuhli loaches. I have found these babies 1 by one day by day over the last 2 weeks. Yesterday was the first day I didn't find any. I have 16 at the moment, one died from the first 3 i found, it somehow ended up under this marble I had in the net to keep it weighed down. The rest are thriving, and the mum looks like she is ready do pop again. I cant find anyone that had had them from this age, so i have no one to compare facts with, but from what I can tell, no one has had them at this age. So here they are,..........

Do you know of which Pangio species the parents are?

yeah look, i dont know if they are but looking at thier different colouring it's the only explination for what i have in the tank
this is a pic of one of them, taken when i first got them about a year ago now

i started off with 8 and now have 6, one of them is one of those purple plain coloured ones, thats y the babies are varying in colour because i believe he is the father to some of them, if not all of them. i have 2 females in there for sure, both like the above pic.
also i just found another one. he is 6mil long and his head is about 1mil thick, he's is tiny compared to some of the first ones i found about 2 weeks ago

are you positive they're pangio fry, the eye's look far to big for me, what other fish are in the tank.

i'm not positive, actually far from it lol... i'm hoping they are but i dont know thats why im on here. looking at that first link pic, it gives me doubts, i mean iv given u pretty good pics, you guys are the ones that should know
the fish i have 2 or more of are 7 black phantoms, 4harliquin rasbora, 4 of these other smaller version lookin rasbora, 3 neons, 2 scissortails and 2 of these long nosed things that spend thier time on the surface of the water.
what made me think they were kuhli's was that some of them have stripes, and they have pretty long tails, so i dont know only time will tell, but i wont waste anymore space on this site with pics till i know for sure

It's hard to be able to tell at this age, as you said time will tell.
The space is not wasted, please don't feel that it is. Keep us posted. If they are Kuhlis it would be cool to have a progression of pictures from tiny to identifyable.
If their not Kuhlis thats cool to. Fry of any kind are exciting

Where are you finding them?? In the gravel?

Have to agree with Mick, those don't look like baby kuhli's. Good luck though.

well to start off, i didnt have gravel. i do now in one half of the tank but i only put that in 4 or 5 days ago. i have to internal filters at each end of the tank causing a circular motion in the water, and i'm finding the baby's usually around the filters on top of the water swimming next to the wall, usually where there is less current.
If they are harliquin rasbora or black phantoms, why are the baby's coming out with different colours. i mean the only other choice i can see them being is scissor tales, because they are longish so...but i only have 2 of them, i mean they hangout all the time but i dont know anything about them, thats the only other possible choice

there's two possibles out of the fish you have, my guess is they are halfbeak fry as i've bred all the others you have and the fry did'nt look like yours.
but as someone mentioned it's nice to find any fry it does'nt matter what they are.

good luck with them, and give us some pics when they get a bit bigger.

Now that you mention it, those fry look like my halfbeak fry did. Pointed nose, big, dark eyes. I found them very difficult to keep after six weeks. The water must be super clean.

halfbeaks you say.. well that sux i only have 2 of them well at least they cost more, so i can sell them for more to the lfs.

I loved my halfbeak fry, but I lost everyone. Also watch your female that she doesn't have complications. I lost my female. Nearly broke my heart.

Hi nitram79, congratulations on your fry. Is it possible for you to take a side-on photo of one of the fry for us? I have some side-on pics of tiny Hemirhamphodon halfbeak fry which I could post for a rough comparison.
