Safe chemicals

Post by mellofone » Tue Aug 01, 2006 8:17 pm

Lets just say I have some pretty bad water. I've been researching chemicals to take care of it during water changes. From what I can read, people suggest Seachem's Prime or AmQuel. Any suggestions? Will any of the two do any harm to clowns?

What are your water parameters? How bad is "pretty bad" and what kind of fish are you trying to keep? Unless your water is "really bad" there is a chance you could find a fish that can stand it. Some may thrive in it.

I have 4 clown loaches right now. Tests right from the tap show ammonia (2.0), elevated nitrates, and its very hard. I don't have a hardness test kit, but I can tell from all the gunk that builds up on stainless steel sink items that it is pretty hard :)

Where are you posting from - even remotely. Is it northern Canada? Where does your originating water come from? What is your local water supply?

Is it potable water? Is there some way you can get a water report from your water company? You can also ask at the pet shop what they do, and what the waters like. A good LFS will know the pH gH etc
