New setup dilema

Ok Ive made space in the shed/doghouse for some tanks, I only have 7ft in length of space and due to already existing cupboards etc can only go two tanks high.

My main reason for setting tanks up down there was to try and get a few species spawning but now I am thinking about hillstream species tanks, my dilemma is that including the measurements of timbers for the framework I am down to around 6ft of space so what tanks do I put in :?:

The tanks are all free so cost isn't an issue (managed to talk someone into donating them to my good cause :lol: )

The options I have are:

1x4ft + 4x2ft

1x4ft + 1x2ft + 2x3ft

2x3ft + 3x2ft

6x2ft

Which would you guys go with if it was you :?:

personally i'd go with option 2, it gives you a better chance with a few species.

Option 2 or 3. You can have some habitat's for certain species. Smaller nice ones though.... :wink:

how do you do it?


is there any species that you really really want to have/breed? unless they are tiny, go for 2 or 3

I'd go with either Option 2 or Option 3.

What width are you able to go with the tanks?
So many species of fish yet so little time, space and money to keep them all...

The thing is I want separate tanks for my Sewellia spotted and lineolata so really thats two 3 foot's, I fancy either more hillies or Yunanillis etc.

The tanks will be 12" wide and 15" deep

The wife has a 36"x15"x12" at the moment for her platies but she is losing interest so I will probably take over that and that will be good for Yunanillis and Pangio's maybe :)

I would prefer option 3.

If I'm sure only keep small loaches, then eventually option 4...one tank more :)

I like option 2 because I like bigger tanks, but for the fish you want it seems the smaller tank option 3 is better.

A 4' tank is more of a biotope tank. Perhaps conditioning of certain fish could happen there, then move them to the smaller tanks for breeding. I have no idea if this works with Hillys. Maybe better to put them in the smaller tanks from the beginning, one species per tank.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

If this is what you call a dilema, then you are a lucky man!! ;)
I would go with option 2 or 3.
If you want to try other hillstreams, you could probably combine the two Sewellia species and still get good breeding.
I would want to try my hand at Vanmanenia and Crossostoma if I could find them and had the room.

Only joking with you...
Its easyer to create the turbulance with smaller tanks but harder to keep them stable as you know ...
option 3 is my fav
