That is exactly what I was wondering.

They're beauties. They surely look like what you'd expect from the cross, even with my inexperienced eye. What's the background? Did you or someone you know breed them??

They came into the country via Eastern Europe labelled as "Botia sp almorhae" only, they were thought to be hybrid straight away but recently I have seen some wild caught striata showing very similar in fact almost identical markings :?

Wow! That's a stunning fish Mick! They all are. I hope they came by their beauty naturally! Don't want to support Dr. loachenstien, but I'd have a really difficult time leaving them in a fish shop whatever they are.

Seeing Mick's wild caught "striata" makes me question the hybrid/? fish. Pretty for sure but not even close to my thinking of that species. Gahhh! I want DNA testing ... I feel confused & worried (& too much wine) Help!

Hi Guys I think this is a Striata from an extreme location .
Why make a hybrid out of a relativley cheap fish?

Natural hybridization is pretty unlikely given the distances involved .
IMHO.

The more and more the patterns develop Neil the more I am certain they are not hybrids.

I spoke to a friend who works for a pharmaceutical company and they have done hormone induced spawning and have had dealings with companies that have done hybridisation work and he reckons there is to much pattern variation between the fish for them to be artificial hybrids.
