Martin, we have a product here that should be allowed into Canada mate, but i think you'd have to ask the powers that be first as it's in powder form.
it's trade name now is wormer plus but was called flubenol, i use it and think it's as good or better than levamisole, you can order it from Plymouth Discus on line, but it will depend if they let it through your side of the pond?.

never take people at face value.
I really appreceate the advantages of quarantining , and have been caught out more than once in the past , the problem for me usually starts when I see a fish I've been dreaming about for years and years , the temptation to buy is overwhelmingly strong and I usually sucumb to my basic desires , and buy
and I have been caught out , and lost the odd tank or two of fish
like some people here I think I'm experienced , but you know what thought can do
BUT I can honestly say that I've always bought with good intentions ! funnily enough I now have a 3ft tank with nothing in so this can be my quarantining tank
whilst I agree and know is the right thing to do and promote , I guess my compultion to own fish I might never see again is very strong .
Sorry all , but I prefer to be totally honest , rather than rightious
This thread should perhaps not stray to far from Marks beautiful fish [Splendida] Marks a great fishkeeper trying his best as are we all !
I wish I had some but at this present time they are out of my league , so at least by Mark and mick showing us pics of theirs we can enjoy them and learn at their expence , keep up the good work guys ! and thanks to Neil for ordering them so we can purchase them if we want , it dont seem long since these were but a pipe dream and lo and behold , within a very short time [convention] they arrive at Pier Aquatics
40 of them

quote "I just want to clarify here that all fish at my shop are quarantined prior to sale, and Mick must mean that he didn't quarantine at his end"
This is my first post here as a new member but I've been a regular watcher for a while. I've been following this thread with interest especially since the issue of quarantine raised it's head. I've been keeping fish of all types for nigh on half a century and have yet to come across a retailer or wholesaler that had what could be called a definitive quarantine system. Wholesalers come quite close because they hold fish ready for shipping and generally do not have several different species together in one enclosure. Mixing fish in the retail environment from around the world usually results in a primordial mix of fish and pathogens which makes problem control difficult. I can only recall two shops over the years that had off show quarantine facilities enabling proper quarantine to take place resulting in the minimal stock problems. Most reputable retailers do their very best on the quarantine front but have to do it in their retail stock tanks. To do it any other way would entail doubling the gallonage of most shops which is neither feasible nor financially sound in most cases.
Quarantine is not the correct title for what most retailers do. Reputable retailers give us the best they can and this thread should stop here!!!

I have to be honest here myself. I don't Q
I have mixed feelings on it and sort of feel the Q process is stressful in itself to the fish.
I'm not prone to impulse when it comes to buying fish. If you have read any of my posts you will see that it has taken me months and hundreds of miles, most of the time coming home with nothing to get my two tanks up and mostly stocked.
I'm 42 and had kept fish since a child, minus my ten year absence from the hobby that I'm just now returning to. When at a LFS I spend quite a bit of time observing the fish I might be interested in - politely waiving off the employees and letting them know I'll come get them if I need them.
I don't suggest that I'm correct or that anyone should adopt my strategy, just that some of us old farts have our own way of doing things and with experience and patience we can be quite accurate in our selections.
That's all folks!

the quarantine some shops do up my way at best could be called a joke, i know a few shops that get new fish in and put them in a tank with other species, when i ask can i buy some they say they are in Q but all the other species are for sale in the same tank.????
how in anyones imagination can they call it Q?.
btw, i should have said that they are shops from around my area.
