Mesonemacheilus triangularis

Post by GeoffH » Sat May 16, 2009 12:52 pm

Another compatibility question please.

Would I being asking for trouble if I added three ( say ) M. triangularis to my community tank in which there are already 4 M. guentheri ?

I'm hoping they will socialise with their relatives and behave similarly.

Thanks in advance.

Geoff

It all depends on tank size and personal preferences. I personally would like to see more of the same species together in one tank rather than the 'community' environment.

i'll agree that it would be useful to know the tank size and what type of fish are in the tank.
i know when we first had shipments of tri's in the same bags was guntheri contaminants but if the tank is to small you would end up with dead loaches as neither is what i'd call peaceful.

I have a 65 gallon tank with 12 small Barbs, 6 Asian Catfish and 14 Loach( 6 Pangio Kuhlii, 4 M. guentheri, 4 Botia rostrata ). The tank has lots of bogwood, plants and pipes for personal space.
All the loaches have settled in well and spend quite a lot of time at the front of the tank on the fine gravel substrate. No serious behaviour problems thus far.

Cheers

go get your tri's mate, it sounds like the perfect tank.
as a precaution change your decor about when you add the tri's, they'll be to busy finding new bolt holes.

Thanks Mick, hope to get them on Thursday. Will let you know how I get on. I've got room to add some more pipes but can't find anything suitable in the aquatic shops. The ones I have were bought may years ago. Maybe I should try the plumbers merchant.

when you said a community tank i thought, angel big gouramis guppies yunno what i mean.
ask at the merchants for the pipes that sink otherwise you have to weight them down.

My 'Tri's have arrived

Post by GeoffH » Thu May 21, 2009 8:47 am

I've added 3 M.triangularis today and initial signs are good. The M.guentheri aren't making life difficult for them as yet.
Also added 2 B.rostrata to make the total 6.
Just the Y.sidthimunki to go, better leave them a few weeks.
