Helodes with arowanas and bichirs

Post by Johanski » Thu Jul 23, 2009 9:04 am

What do you guys think about a group of around 6-8 botia helodes with this fish combination in my 960 litre aquarium, (200 cm * 80 CM * 60 CM)

8 uaru cichlids
7 polypterus'
1 silver arowana
2-4 L025

They will be heavily fed. PH ranging from 6,5-7 with very soft water. 26 C. Loads of filtration (2x fluval fx5 + a BTN module acting as a filter)

Aslong as they are big enough to not be eaten, will it be alright?

If large enough they may be ok however I think they could cause problems for the Birchirs.
So many species of fish yet so little time, space and money to keep them all...

Both aro and birchir are highly predatory, can swallw larger stuff then you'd expect and grow much faster then Botia. Get large loaches.
Years ago I kept a couple of little (2-3") clowns with a bigger (>12") aro. The big fella'd go right to the bottom and up to the little loaches, then back off. Makes me think that clowns may have a chemical deterrent.
Tigers are unlikely to be so blessed.
