Transporting CL's

Post by chelms166 » Sat Aug 19, 2006 12:05 am

I'm gonna be moving my loaches this weekend and wanted to know if I need to take any special precations for the trip. It's not much of a trip though as it's only a 20 minute drive. I have a small 20g that I wanna set up prior to bringing them over so I have a somewhat habitable place for them to wait for their home to be set up. There are 6 clowns and a few other non loaches. Can I just place them in plastic bags with some tank water in them and pray that they'll be alright?

Thanks ya'll.

Double bag them (for those spines) and remember to tape the corners. May be an idea to place the bags inside a bucket for ease of transportation (and in case of leaks!).

Be sure to bag them without other species in the same bag. Clowns can excrete a mucus when transported, which can wipe out other fish species.
Good luck with the move,

Instead of a double bag, I find very convenient to trasport fish in CD boxes (the kind of box they sell empty CDs/DVDs in). A 100CD box should accomodate three 3" clowns easily.

Hopefully, you mean a cycled one...putting six clowns into an uncycled 20g may not work very well. If you still have time, you may want to break the procedure: move hardier fish now, together with lots of your gravel, and clowns in a week.

Good luck
