clowns dying no signs of anything

Post by funkymunkey29 » Thu May 13, 2010 12:27 am

I have had 5 clownloaches die in the last couple of weeks. They look totally healthy. Nice coloring and everything.Tested the water and it is fine. Anybody have any ideas what might be causing it?

What's the food?
What's changed in that time?
I also had some mysterious deaths of Y. modesta last year. Med-sized, healthy fish that just sort of went odd and croaked over about 24Hrs. One, then 2 months later the other. Also lost a lovely knife and some other more predatory stuff; same (lack of?) symptoms. I stopped feeding (or eating ourselves) that brand of prawns and everybody's been fine since.

Without having any specific details, I'd say that the water is not fine at all. Most problems are due to water quality and water chemistry issues. Most other problems are due to disease outbreaks. Equipment failure is another thing to look into, such as stray voltage due to a malfunctioning heater, pump, or light. Aggressive tankmates is another possible reason.

Like andyroo said, bad or spoiled food may lead to mystery deaths too. Maybe even a poor diet.
