Java (Black) Loach vs. Kuhli Loach

Post by Chelsea92 » Wed May 26, 2010 6:59 pm

Hey all, so yesterday I went to pick up 4 Kuhli loaches I had special ordered. :)
Today when I was checking them out I noticed they didn't quite look like what the regualr banded kuhli's looked like in all the pictures I had seen. So I looked them up and found the Java Loach.
I had ordered ordered the black loach thinking it was just like the regular black kuhli's with the bars. These guys are more gray and have no bars. Did I actually order the Java Loach on accident? Is the black loach actually the Java loach or is it supposed to have been the regualr banded kuhli?
I also wanted to know if they would eat veggies or fruits? I really have only previously kept pleco's so loaches are foreign to me still :]
Any other advice would be greatly appriciated!

Well any how I'm not mad, I got them for a great deal and I actually really enjoy them even if they weren't what I expected. They seem like neat little fish.

This is why it is better to order by the Latin names. The supplier may still not have it right, but at least you know what you are ordering. There are pictures and descriptions of several Kuhlie Loaches and similar species here:

38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!
