Ten (a cautionary tale)

The other day we were at the dump. Cloudhands was thowing out the trash, and I took the glass over to the recycling. "Oh No!" there next to the recycling was a very nice-looking tall tank, seemingly intact. Seems to be a 45 gallon, and seems to be holding water.

So now we have TEN fishtanks. (and a big bucket on the porch with fry)

a very slippery slope!

On the bright side... his apistogrammas have successfully spawned, and there are lots of little fry, and the CPDs have produced at least a few fry.

Of course, we are hoping some of our loaches will find themselves in the mood some day.

BEWARE! It was not so long ago we had three tanks and I was quite certain we had no place to put another (and that was before the 120 or the 55....) And the back porch is covered with various containers for growing algae, mosquito larvae and green water.

Currently down to 7 tanks from the high of 18. It's a constant struggle.

A universal advice: when you empty a tank, get rid of it immediately.
I haven't. They are in storage, more than ten of them. The itch is constant. I can't sleep at nights.

My wife & I live in a 375 sq. ft. apartment, i have 9 tanks set up at the moment. We have no table, we eat on folding trays. I'm a yard saler and can't pass up a deal! I currently have 5 tanks in my small storage unit and 2 in the back of my van. I have a problem!

ah, well, it did have a bit of a leak. Got to have a silicone job before it can find a home inside....

You make me feel good to only have SEVEN!!!
(that is not counting the 46 gallon bowfront that I recently got from a friend FOR FREE including the stand that is in the garage!)
My deck is a mass of tubs and containiners, I have to clean out the bathtubs in the house when guests arrive as they may crunch on an unfortunate snail, schemes for plants above the water...
Oh and I am CRAVING some of those apisto babies that Cloudhands is raising.
You would think that I was asking for lion cubs at the LFS when I mention apistos of any kind. I know you all live too far away for that to be realistic, but just out of curiousity, where did he (y'all, as we say down here!) get his original mating pair? Did he order on line? (I am getting that desperate!...I have a tank already primed and ready to go!)

Be careful if you are still single -- Cloudhands was just saying it's a good thing we got into this together, 'cause if either one of us had 10 tanks (or even 7!) when we were dating it probably would have been a deal breaker ("he seemed so great, but when I went over to his place there were fishtanks everywhere!"

We got our apistos at our hour-away fish store (I think maybe our pusher ordered them for him?), but we have been getting fish online, too. Frank is fabulous to work with, we got something from Wet Spot, and Cloudhands got a breeding pair of clown killies off aquabid. The problem with the aquabid purchase is he sent some "bonus" fancy guppies along without our consent. They now live in a tub on the porch with the goldfish, but when winter comes I am not sure what will happen to them. At least I think the goldfish are keeping the fry population down in there!

Yesterday we rodeo'd the fish from the river-q-tank #1 into the main river tank, now that q-tank (40 gallon) is becoming (we hope) a danio breeder for the Kyathits (to start) And we have filled every glass container with rocks and water and ammonia and ferts and put them in the sun on the back porch ("You want lasagna? Sorry, all the pyrex is in use..." )
