filtration for Kuhli loaches

Post by Babba » Tue Oct 09, 2012 2:11 am

Howdy. I am about to set up yet another tank... :P and I was thinking of getting a sizable bunch of Kuhlis once it is established (only other tank mates will be junenile angelfish). But I was wondering about the best type of filtration - I have read that Kuhlis like to get into tight places... I gather that would include canister and hang on filter uptake tubes? What do you guys recommend for effective but safe filtration?

forget my post - I've answered my own question - sponge over the intake... Which is exactly what I am doing on my fry tanks
Dont you just hate newbies who post before they read??

The only stupid question is the one not asked.

Your posts may have just enlightened many others who were wondering the very same thing you were but didn't have the time or know-how to search through the older posts.

I was going to recommend sponge filters. I have large ones that I drop a diffusor on the end of the airtube after it is threaded through the bullseye.

Took me forever to think of sponge over my filter intakes. I was wondering if the angels would think of the kuhlies as worms (lunch), unless you have big kuhlies and small angels to start. :)

I have Kuhlies and sponges over the intake.
I actually have one intake split into several, connected with PVC pipes.
Guess where Kuhlie Loaches hid when I moved that tank? Yup! They know a pre-made tunnel when they see it!
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

I muck around breeding angelfish - and this new tank will only ever house small angels anyway - so I dont think even greedy angels of this size would be able to eat them. All my large angels will be in different tanks. I have always wanted to try keeping Kuhlis again so I am rather excited and impatient! My sad attempts years ago had them "disappear" - probably under the gravel or up the filter but that dates back to pre internet and so I did not know any better and thought they had died.

Thankyou all for your helpful and kind words! Will let you know when I get them. I want to make sure the tank has cycled well first.
