Well, I guess as of tonight they're mine....apart from curly-Q who decided to do a dissapearing act. No doubt he will re-appear tomorrow :wink:

Well, they settled into they're Q-tank accomodation and have been exploring and eating Bloodworms.

The photos show up some interesting stuff.......

Nice looking semi-adult fish right? Except it's only about 1.25" SL :?:

Note the "comet" tail markings. I've looked at other juvenile Botia pics and the black marking is always extending more into the fin lobe. Also note the red on the caudal top and bottom.

They have a lot of current in the tank because there's a Fluval 4 internal in there as well as an Aquaclear 150 HOB....and a little minijet 404 pump as well.

Right now, they're all going Loachy-dance nuts and apparently loving the current.

I think curly might be dead...
I accidentally misread the testkit instructions for copper, Im supposed to look through it top down (which ive never had to do...) so... I thought I had 0.25Mg/L of copper and I have over one mg/L as it turns out, which is a very lethal dose.....

:cry:

(large amounts of swearing)

sooo I have a big bag of carbon in there now... hopefully nothing dies. The rams haven't noticed but everything else is reeeally starting to go nuts... much more so than this afternoon...

I just kept adding copper figuring it was being bound up... :oops:

On the upside... anything not wearing a hazmat suit in there parasite wise HAS to be soooo dead... so no worries MT lmao

Great photographs. :D These have got to be either a hybrid or a different species/different population. The face says 'clown', as does the tail.....

Do they have the same little sharp hook in their mouth that the clowns do, as Shari so recently discovered? :lol:

Interesting looking fish, for sure. The proportions are definately odd. I would have guess they were at least twice as big as they actually are.
What are they, Botia Histrioniclown?

Is the redness around the gill area a bad sign of anything? I got some Horsehead loaches from the LFS the other day that looked exactly the same around the gills.

At the size these guys are, many baby Botia have redness in that area. It's just that the operculum is so thin at this size that you're seeing right though it to blood concentrated in the gills.

How big are the Horsies?

Very nice photos, congradulations on getting *interesting* fish...

I wonder with the adult proportions...is it remotedly possible that this fish does not grow too large? (Having something like a Clown, limited to 3", even with some aggression...would it not be nice?)

Whatever they are, once they get settled they become incredibly aggressive...

They'll eat ANYTHING... and they wont stop until they explode

they came from czech rep as 'cb burmese loach'

that's all I know...

Also- if you look at the bottom lip closely they have the 'nub' thing that fat lippy bit clowns have- also the arrangement of barbels doesnt match burmese or clown precisely

And ya Martin the curly one appeared out of nowhere several hours after you left. I figure I can just catch him whenever we meet again for you...

He just warped in from another dimension... He wasn't there, then POOF there he was... I literally tore the tank down to gravel to catch them... sneaky...

My horsies are small to very small. The biggest is maybe 2.5 inches and the smallest is very tiny. Maybe an inch. So I guess that could very well be what the reddness on them is also. The bigger one is more darker, almost a dark reddish-brown color.
