I tried to reply to mikev's thread about fungus and got this message which doesn't even make sense:
Sorry, but only can reply to posts in this forum.
It's the first time I've replied as the first respondent under the ad banner.
Martin.

Martin,
if you could reply here, it would be appreciated greatly.
So far, I only added Furon2 to the tank. It should work if it is a bacterial infection but I suspect it is a true fungi. I've never seen anything like this in the past or had any fungi... If the fish is still alive when I get home, I'm going to use Ich Guard (Malachite Green + Salt): both components are supposed to be effective against fungus.

Right....now it's letting me post OK.
I've just cured that weird milky looking film on one of the Czech Botia with Aquarium Products Furanase. Be warned though, it can knock out your biofilter.
It's specifically for fungus and bacterial infections. Worked in 3-4 days in my case. Never used it with hillstreams though.
Martin.

Thanks.
Furanase is *good stuff*.
The active med is nifurpirinol. It is the same class as Furon2's nitrofurazone, and it is very efficient against bacterial problems, much better than the usual antibiotics. I prefer Furon2 since it is biofilter-safe and has a proven track record here, including with hillstreams.
Unfortunately, neither one will do much good if it is a real fungi, not a bacterial infection.... it seems that I have to chose between malachite green, meth blue, salt, and pimafix....

I don't even see mikev's thread about fungus. I've gotten that message before when trying to post the first reply to a new thread....it was about a month ago. When I went back to try again, the thread was gone. I thought maybe a mod had deleted it. But the thread was back up again later. I don't know what happened. I didn't worry about it. It wasn't an urgent issue and I can't even remember who's thread it was.
I don't know exactly what the symptoms were and how you're sure it is fungal and not bacterial, mikev, but going by that list I'd stick with the mal green or meth blue. I have not heard many success stories with pimafix. Most of the stories go "Yeah, I treated with pimafix but he still died. I guess I did all I could" Salt alone wouldn't be aggressive enough, either, if you're thinking it might not even be alive by the time you get home. The only issue is the lowered oxygen levels from the meds... I didn't catch what type of hillstream it was so I don't know how careful you have to be about that.

(The fish in this Q-tank is very weak, I've been slowly losing them over the last two months, and they seem to be taken out by different opportunistic infections,...so I cannot do much)..Does not make any real difference since I still have to treat.
What it was (the orig post seemingly disappeared) was a dot, about 1mm, milk-white and fuzzy, on the face of a fish, which looked to me like a fungal growth. Did not look like flexibacter (which is really the only bacteria that masquerades as fungus), wrong appearance and placement. Probably not the real cause of the disease, true fungus is usually opportunistic.
Oh well, I did put the ich med in (Malachite Green + Salt). At least I know that this one is safe for the fish and the filter, and both components do work on fungus.
