36 Sids should make that tank the one to watch....at least until you get the Sewellia.

hi mark
this is the info my mate has passed on.
the tank was 30x15x12 inch, temperature was between 76-78 f
ph was kept at 6.5 using waterlife ph control.
the filter was one of those old hangon filters with a small motor on it.
the pyramid of pipes were cut to 6 inch long with a diameter of just over an inch.
he said the fry hid inbetween the tubes and thats why he thinks so many survived and that he watched them once spawning under the bogwood area.
hope you are successful in spawning them one day bud, it took chad 15 yrs before there was any sign of breeding. haha
cheers

Thanks for all the comments
Mick, Thanks for the info, I am going to make some pipe pyramid's as soon as I can get round to it. I think everything else is pretty much right apart from the Ph which is around 7 at the moment so I was going to bring that down a little anyway.
I shot a video with my camera last night, the quality isn't great but I think part of that was down to low light levels in the tank, I will get a better one soon just to make you a little more envious

Congrats, Mark!
It's fantastic to see such a big happy fat group of Sids.
Coincidentally, I've been planning a little Sid tank for a while now and am starting to set it up tomorrow. It's going to go on my computer desk (which if you remember is quite a big L-shaped desk) so that I can see them whilst I'm working. Mind you, I'll probably get even less done then!

Sounds good Emma, cant wait to see some pics
Having a Sid tank that is visible from the computer certainly is a distraction, the amount of times I have glanced at the tank and then sat watching mesmerised for an hour or more is ridiculous

Spawning sids
Regarding the spawning sids mentioned upthread....is any more known about what might have triggered the spawning?
Things like season, water changes, water level changes?
I'm watching my sids do their clean tank happy dance, and they're really going at it--the rainbows have given up trying to join in and are just watching form the sidelines while the sids zip around--and I notice a couple of them have distinctly plump bellies. The tank is too busy right now for anyone to spawn successfully--the sids certainly follow the rainbows on their daily spawning dances and gobble up the rainbow eggs. But if there were something else I could do to encourage them, I could shift the other fish out for a while to try it. I've got reasonably soft water, temps high 70s, lots of plants for cover, and probably too many snails.
