Saw A loch with a bit of ich on the tail

the weakest looking loach that hardly comes out came out today. i noticed a bit of ich on his tail. i treated with half the dose. the temp is 82 degrees in the tank. i tried to catch him but no luck. ill keep trying!

ok i have follolwed the ich treatment. i vaccumed the tank, did a 50% water change and treated with half the medication. i am going to clean the substrate cleaning tool. wish me luck! i tried to catch that little bugger and I don't think i can unless i tear apart the entire aquarium. ill keep monitoring him tommorow!

How are the fish looking today? If you add your location to your profile, others in your area may be able to advise on whether you are using the best treatment available to you. If your other fish can tolerate it, you can up the temperature a little to speed up the cycle (84-86 deg F), but remember it is really important to increase aeration at higher temps.

There is no need to catch the affected fish as this will stress them further, plus the whole tank needs medicating.

Yep. Give up on trying to catch the fish. If you have an ich outbreak treat the whole tank, or soon you'll have everyone in the qtank anyway.

what are you treating with? what's the plan? If your temp is in the 80's the infection will rapidly spread if you don't have some medication to kill off the free swimming stage of the life cycle.

im 40 miles north of miami florida. i treated the tank. i have the temp at 84 degrees. i noticed the ich again today on one of the two fish that i was it on before. they are acting normal as of now. the treatment was added yesterday. the tanks carbon filter has been removed. i will treat it again tommorow if i still see signs of it when i get home from work. i have a jet running that has a bubbler attached to it. it basically shoots streams of bubbling water through the tank with a good amount of force. i think the aeration is fine. i cleaned the tank and did a 50% water change with 50% of the recommended dose.

What med?

Due to the life cycle of the parasite you will need to continue to treat for several days to a week AFTER all the spots are gone. Don't believe what it says on the bottle. No med can 'cure' ich in 2 treatments.

yes i know. i wasn't going to treat it again until today. 48 hours in between doses. and i will keep treating for another week or two after that. i checked this morning and it appears that the loach most covered in ich only has a few spots on him now.

the temp is still 84 degrees.

last night at 4am all the big loaches came out and were playing all night in the blue moon light. they were more active than i have ever seen and i could put my face right up against the glass and they would just sit there and look at me. if i did any sudden moves they would bolt but for the most part they were interactive and very happy! it didn't appear that they had any ich on them but its hard to see in the blue moon light.

I just had a closer look again. i treated the tank again. 3 of the smaller loaches have ich on them. it doesn't appear that the one ealier had fewer spots on him. they look the same.

checked again today. it appears that the first loach i saw that had the ich that was most covered in spots appears to have only one spot now. george has less than he had yesterday but i saw a few spots and i got a really good closeup look at him. the other two smaller loaches don't have any spots that i can see. i won't be able to see the spots on the larger loach until i see them at night. i don't think i will be able to tell under the blue moon light though. other than that, everyone seems very energetic and playful like they usually are. i don't see any spots on any other fish but the loach. i saw one spot. im trying right now to take a better look at a few of the more timid loaches.

ok this morning things were looking up. i didn't see any visible signs of the spots on any loach today.

I helped my roommate treat his tank a few weeks ago.. He did the 3 treatments of "QuickCure"... The loaches had spots all over his tail, but he was acting completely normal.

My roommate was a bit panicked, but based on personal experience, you have to give the spots at least a few additional days after the water treatment to clear up.

Most had cleared 3 days later... The rest were gone by the end of the week.

He of course did the substrate vaccuum and water change and all is well.

i recently used super-ick cure to treat a small amount of ick on one gourami in my tank..

it is a great med, and it is 100% loach safe (my experience)

treat the tank for 6 days (3 doses) after all visible spots are gone!! then do a 15-20% waterchange and put carbon into your filter (if possible)

hey brett, yeah no signs of ich anymore today. im going to dose it a few more times in the next week. i really cleaned the tank for a good 2 hours as well during each water change. so hopefully i sucked most of it out. i had 4 days and two water changes to get rid of it, that is assuming it is gone(which i do not). i have done half doses and it hasn't bothered the loaches yet.
