kuhli inquiry

Post by mr white » Fri Feb 16, 2007 6:35 pm

I own 4 kuhli loaches, and I have a few questions about them, as I've read varied reports. I have black kuhlis, btw.
1) can they live at high temperatures (80-86) permanently?
2) is a gravel they can bury in necessary?
3) do they only grow to 4 inches, at the biggest?
4) what is the minimum tank size?
5) are they hardy?

thanks for anyone's help!

ps: does anyone know a good fish for cycling a 5 gallon tank? thanks again!
one redfin, one albino redfin, one kuhli loach, one horseface loach, one pleco, one clown pleco, two upside down catfish, two bala sharks in 77 gallons.
more kuhlis and horsefaces soon, hopefully.

I agree with Graeme on all except 5. They are hardy if you make it past the first couple of weeks. I try to let all Pangios (kuhlis) recover from shipping at the lfs for at least a week and then a 2 week quarantine.

feeder guppies are always good for cycling (and cheap).
Current loach residents- 14 Pangio semicincta, 2 P. doriae, 4 P. myersi, 1 P. shelfordi, 5 P. anguilaris, 6 P. oblonga, 8 P. cuneovirgata 5 Chromobotia macracantha, 3 Gastromyzon ctenocephalus, 3 Gastromyzon species unknown

what do you mean the first two weeks? as in, the first two weeks you bring them home or the first two weeks of a new tank? I doubt and hope it's not, the last one.
how many kuhlis could I fit in a 20 gallon? (young and full grown)
thanks for the replies!!

I've always found that if a loach makes it past the first week or two (after you bought it), it'll live a good long time.

I've only ever had one die on me, the acclimatization was too much for him.Now I have four, and they're all extremely happy. :D
