Very small clown, can they even sell at this size??

A few months ago, I bought this baby clown loach for 4 dollars, it ended up dying from fungus (went through and killed almost all of my freshwater fish). But, I was wondering, can they even sell at this size?!? When I got it, a small male guppy was larger than it. It was maybe about an inch long or less.

When I had it for those few short weeks, it didn't even look it was all the way "formed" or whatever you'd call it...

It sure is cute. Not sure if they are allowed to sell them this tiny. I certainly wouldn't buy one that small.

It's a disgrace that they are being exported at this size. They really don't stand a chance in the hands of the 'average store'.

I, personally, never order them in at a size smaller than 2.75". Even at this size they require intensive feedings, clowns at less than an inch would require a pretty much constant supply of tiny foods in order to grow healthily. In my opinion, they are best left where they are (in nature) at that size. There are restrictions on the largest size clowns that are allowed to be exported from Indonesia, and there really should be the same for these youngsters!

Our local fish store had a whole tank of the tiny clowns. They were really cute so a few days later I went back with my husband to show him. They were gone and the clerk said they were all sold out.

There were so many clowns in that tank and that store doesn't get loads of customers. I suspect they died. I hope the fish store learned a lesson and doesn't order them again.

I just got a new clown today. He was healthy, lively, and is doing well with my other clown I already had in there. They immediatley started to follow each other around.

I saw some VERY little kuhli loaches at a petstore once. I swear, they were thinner than a ramen noodle! And about an inch long!

I have one very small kuhli-I've written about him before. I guess he's maybe 1 1/2" and so skinny that I treated him for skinny. He is in the 10 gallon planted tank, which he seems to enjoy-I see him out and about all the time, doing the loachy dance, which my big ones upstairs in the 55 don't do. But he's not growing that I can see. I feed lots of frozen bloodworms, brine and mysis shrimp, sinking wafers, carnivore wafers and algae wafers. I don't know if I should be worried or not-he seems healthy enough in all other respects.

My LFS gave me a 1" clown when I had 5 other clowns around 2.5". He was in an order with all other at 2"+. LFS was worried as well at his tiny size. He didn't grow very much to start with with 3 meals a day, always with the others, but 3 years later he is bigger than 2 of the original 5, has beautiful markings, really good colour and nice full figure. So although he had a "slow" start at growing for at least 6 months, he has made up for it now. Mary

wow, the loach looks so sad. yeah the smallest i have seen is 1" and its sad. they usually look very unhealthy as well. when i got some recent 2" clowns i noticed they would not eat anything but flake food. I believe thats what they were feeding them at the lfs. it is really sad but after about a week i had them eating everything you can think of other than my hand.. i have some 2" clowns now and I have to feed them constantly. i break a sweat from feeding them lol...

I purchased 25- 1/2" baby clowns from an Aquabid seller in Sept of 2005. He shipped them to me in a small oxy filled bag with just a few cups of water in it. These clowns were so tiny that all of them could probably fit into one shot glass.

To this date they are all doing very well. They have never had any disease or illness. They've grown nicely. Most of them are about 2 - 2.5" now. IMO, their is no greater aquatic joy than breeding and raising fish from fry. Those once baby clowns might be the best chance I ever get at that. I dream that my older clowns will spawn someday, but I'm not counting on it.

i saw very small clowns at a shop to... much to young and didn't seem happy and they to were gone in just a few day's...

but i don't think they all died at the shop i think most of them died at home's of aquariumkeepers... it's a shame that not all shopkeepers look after there fish like emma for example (if i named a good shop here you wouldn't have a clue what is was talking about

)

all of our lfs get them around an inch or so. My last lot were smaller then my biggest panda cory. I feed them almost non-stop and they are still very tiny.

This is disgusting! So now some lfs are importing these because they are cheaper with size and will sell more, thinking buyers see a small colourful fish!! It's the only conclusion!

when my hubby brought the first three home I went "Oh how cute, why only three? they are so small you can have at least 10-15 in your four foot!! Lets go get MORE!!" and he was like "Uh, they get to a foot you know...." So, needless to say, after *I* got *my* 78x24x24 for *my* goldfish, he decided his clowns could live in it, and the goldfish went to his dad lol. His clowns still aren't in it, but I got 6 little lads of my own

they are so little, I just thought that like most fish they shipped best when young(ish) but they are still about £6 each. The 2-3 inch ones are labled "large" or "XXL" and are around £20-30 each!

Barrow is the worst for fish... Emma, I'm going to go shopping with you from now on lol!

p.co is having a sale on 3" clowns for $3.
i got 2 of them, 1 is a lil grey. & the other sometimes lays on its side.
But they like to forage for food.

I'd like to get more clowns when i set up my bigger tank
