High saphphx. They'll be perfectly ok in your present temporary setup. When I moved from England i brought my hillies with me. They lived in a very similar setup for a few weeks until I converted an existing 4 foot tank into a River-Tank.
And then they bred almost immedeately, so they must have been fairly ok in the small tank right?
If you really are a DIY Queen then get yourself down to Do It All or wherever and get the necessary components. You will actually get a lot of satisfaction out of making the manifold and the natural behaviour of the fish will truly be seen. Plus (bonus time) in a 4 foot tank you can add in a whole load of other species (or more Gastromyzon ctenocephalus)as and when you find them. Keep the 2 footer as a Q-tank though.

Think I will keep them, its just keeping them alive and happy until the other fish are out of the big tank.

Still worries about them though, they're still kicking it with the panda corys in slow land, though seem happily sucking the terracotta pots to death

too many lovely fishies, not enough room for more tanks - fishkeeping nightmare
