Hi people
I am new to this forum and as you all seem like a friendly bunch of people I would like to ask you a question.
6months ago I brought Juwel Aquarium Structured 3d Background 550x600mm for my new 7x2x2 ft aquarium.
Well to cut a long story short within 3 weeks of the background being installed within my new aquarium the “Face” of the background begin to peel off revealing black underneath.
Not only does it now look totally unnatural but the peelings have cause me serious issues with my aquarium filters and the health implications for my fish are also questionable.
I am so concerned by this I now have no other choice but to break the entire aquarium down and remove the background and the sealant holding the background in place.
Juwel aquarium have told me there have only been a “few” similar incidents to mine.
I truly hope this is the case and im am just unlucky as it I would not wish this situation on any other hobbyist as it is a truly stressful situation.
So my question to you all is have any of you had any experience with Juwel Structured 3d Backgrounds? or know of anyone who has?
Thank you for your time and sorry for the long post also you can mail me on

PS there are 22 3-6.5" clown loach, 5 yoyos 3-4" in this tank who are my babies!!

thats how it seems to me! hence why i wanted to warn other people and also find out if i was just "unlucky"!!!!
The few other incidents Juwel were aware of involved a strong water current peeling the face off and and a large cat fish rasping at the bckground also causing the face to peel off. i pointed out to Juwel both of these bear no relation to my complaint, the face simply peeled of for no good reason.
As you can imagine i pointd out to them nearly all aquariums have some form of cat fish or alge eater which would rasp at the backgroud and some species tanks require a very strong current for the inhabitants.
It does not warn of these potential issues any where on the packing, unsuprisingly.
Guess im just gona have to wait and see if anyone else has had the same issue.

Did they offer to make good on the problem in some way, or is it just a 'too bad' scenario?
Maybe an email to corporate is in order. They surely wouldn't want to find business falling off because their reputation suffers due to faulty product. Since they know of the issue already it would not be inappropriate to ask them what they are doing to address the issue.

hi
thanks for the replys. i have taken photos and written a letter to juwel who have agreed to give me my money back for the background, but i also want the money for the sealent used to stick it on £25 and if they need to have my card to credit in person me i also want the £15 it will cost to travel back to the wyvale where it came from. and £15 for two stanley scrapers blades to try and get the silicon off the glass.
This is not taken into account the cost for water conditioner i have had to used to vac vac all the bits up twice a week over the months, or the work and time involved in twice weekly water changes, (my tank VERY clean though)
and its also not taking into account the fact that at 8 1/2 months pregnant im (with some help obviously!) gona have to totaly empty the tank of water and fish, and try and get the bloody background off!!!
there is no way its gona come off in sheets like it went on due to all the sealent holding it in place (i didnt want any fish getting behind it and getting trapped or dyeing), my partner said its gona be a nightmare to get off, but the thing that annoys me most is the stress if will cause my fishies especialy my clowns but i figure that 1 days stress is better than leaving it in tha tank to kill my fish,(juwerl are reluctant to tel me what its actually made of!)
The whole experience has nearly (not quite) put me off the hobby due to the stress
i will obviously be buying only external backgroubds from now onwards, i would advise the same to any one else.
also does anyone know what sort of cerification aquarium products should adhere to befor they are relased on sale, i guess they must be tested to make sure they dont releasde toxins in the water etc?
Any help greatly appreciated.
