Weather Loaches and Hillstream Loaches

Post by saphphx » Mon Apr 09, 2007 12:18 am

Can I mix these two in a river tank? I have some weather loaches that are at my in-laws with my goldfish, but keep telling them not to put them in a pond, so by summer they may be giving them back when the goldfish go into the pond.

Thanks in advance :)
too many lovely fishies, not enough room for more tanks - fishkeeping nightmare :P

the weathers won't like the current in a river tank much; they come from still water.

(Expanded version of what she said :) )
While weather loaches appreciate good clean, well aerated water and some current, they will not like the high levels of current that are required by Hillstream loaches.

Martin.

In with your Hillstream loaches? If so (and depending on tank size) you could choose from the large numbers of Danio or Devario species available these days, or small torrent catfish, Psilorhynchos sp, Hara/Erethistes sp, Laguvia sp. etc etc.

I have some giant danios. Plan on doing a 3 foot tank for them if I can, but may only be able to do a 2 foot.
