Eden Powerheads

Post by Mad Duff » Wed Apr 25, 2007 12:09 pm

Does anybody use or has anyone used one of the Eden powerheads in a Loach tank :?:

I am looking for some new powerheads to give a bit of extra flow in my 7ft tank and thought these may well be a good idea with the wave action.

No idea on Edens Mark. Never heard of them before. I've heard that the AZoo Powersweeps are problematical in marine setups due to calciferous buildups.

I'm totally awed at the difference in behaviour of all the loaches in my Clown tank since I added the Seio 1500 in there. I got it in a Jedi deal with Harold, the thing is simply amazing.

Close up, it will batter your hand, but a few inches out the effect dissipates due to the spread flow. The plants growing on bogwood just to one side of the main flow wave slightly in the current, but food or whatever directly in front of it moves fairly rapidly down the length of the tank. It shifts incredible amounts of water without that concentrated blast of a conventional powerhead. Quiet too! I've had it ingest bits of baby Java fern and just spit them out without any problem. Most powerheads would just stall out.
I wouldn't use it with small fish, but my 2" Botia species swim all over it looking for tidbits without any problems.

I've just been looking at the Seio Superflow range at our lfs and these look quite impressive. I've been considering one for the 5ft Grrr tank. Interesting looking turbine blade on them. You can also take off the twin box looking out-let on them and let the loaches feel the full force!

I might just get either a 620 or 820 for the new Clown tank, I would go bigger but with two large externals and an Aquaclear 802 with filter canister I think the flow will be more than adequate :)

I assume those are the same as the Zoo-Med powersweeps as the pictures are identical. I have a 228 in my 75g and whatever the smallest one is in my 10g. The zoo-med ones also include prefilter too. I wouldnt get anything but the 228 on a decent sized tank, even the 228 doesnt pack the punch of cheaper powerheads like the maxi-jet 1200. The sweeping motion isnt perfect, mine occasionaly stops sweeping, sometimes for days, then starts again. No biggie to me, its just a regular powerhead when it doesnt sweep.

Do the Seio Superflow's sweep? Or do they just have a movable outlet but once you set it it doesnt move? Its hard to tell in the pictures. I might need some extra flow in my 8 foot tank I dont think my two modest return pumps will be enough, and was looking at the Seios... pricey, but interesting.

No, the Seio's do not sweep, but the big wide rectangular outlet spreads the flow outward. It has adjustment for angle in a horizontal plane, plus one of the multiple mounting choices that come with the pump has a sort of ball-socket arrangement with a locknut and this allows up and down angular adjustment of the whole unit.

If you're interested I can scan the instruction leaflet that comes with it. It shows all the bits and a cutaway drawing. Drop me a PM with your E-mail.
