Did anyone notice?

Post by Emma Turner » Tue May 01, 2007 1:26 pm

That the PFK website has just opened a series of forums. There is a Loach section there, something to keep a close eye on for the advice that might be given out, methinks!

I have had an interesting and open PM dialogue with Matt Clarke over the question of making external links from the PFK site in posts. If they are links to articles and information here at LOL made to ease the task of answering a question by a PFK forum member he has no objections to this happening.

This extremely sensible and open-minded stance very much conflicts the stance maintained by the web-master of another magazine-affiliated site.
Matt realizes that people link to economically (to their own effort) provide the best information they know is available, not to attempt the "poaching" of membership.
Many other webmasters also have no problem with this. It is how the Internet is supposed to work. Good on yer Matt and PFK.

Blatant repetative linking..... in a signatures for instance.....to other 'conflict of interest' sites should be avoided though......obviously.

Thats good to here Martin :) , I am a member of a couple of forums that will not allow any sort of external link whether it is helpful or not which can be a pain at times.

Yeah I entirely hate censorship that makes it tough to share knowledge, I mean thats what these forums are for. On one of those fourms a bunch of the guru's had enough with various issues and all went to another forum. Now the original forum censors links to the other one everyon went to. Amazing. I've never tried to get people to leave or anything, I always link to specific references just to answer questions. Most of the time every question has already been answered somwhere.
